Our new social campaign invites followers to “Show us How you Make EnvyHair 100% YOU!”—proof of how much we love to hear from wig-wearers. But it’s also a testament to how much the world of wigs has changed. No longer simply a solution to thinning hair, wigs are now style statements and a means of self-expressions—offering parting flexibility, trimming how-tos, and the ability to custom color and heat-style a variety of styles.
Show Your True Color
Fans of 100% Human Hair wigs know they’re an investment. What you may not know is that you can have a brand “new” one for the price of some store-bought semi-permanent hair color. While lightening (or bleaching) a darker-colored wig is best left to the professionals, most amateurs can dye a blonde wig darker. That said, first-timers might want to start with a temporary hair dye. (And always do a test strand first.)
While the process is similar to dying the hair on your head, the roots need special attention, notes Designer & CEO, Alan Eaton, who recommends lightly stroking upward with an angled brush to get closer to the roots without dying your wig’s lace.
A Custom Cut
Many of today’s wigs allow for trimming while keeping the integrity of their style. A casual asymmetrical style, ENVY’s new BILLIE features an extended nape that’s perfect for women with longer necks but purposely designed to be trimmed as desired. While AMBER’s chic, contemporary cut features razored bangs whose varied edges can easily be clipped for a custom cut.
When trimming bangs, it’s best to start off with a longer length to avoid error—snipping edges with scissors at 45° angles. For side swept bangs, snip bangs progressively longer as you move outward. (Either way, going to a licensed professional to alter your wig is always recommended.)
Your Personal Part
In addition to making the style your own, altering your part from time to time (as you would your bio hair) makes it appear more natural. And with their hand-tied strands mimicking your hair’s own growth and movement, many of ENVY’s Mono Top styles allow for parting flexibility. To the left, right or straight down the middle—you can part BRITTANEY’s tousled curls, our new LISA’s lush lob, or SOPHIA’s stylish blunt cut any way you choose. Or add instant volume to any flexible style with one of the year’s biggest trends—the deep side part!
For a perfectly natural, custom look, try a slightly imperfect part, says Designer and CEO, Alan Eaton. “Gently snip a few wispy pieces using manicure scissors—AND some restraint—for a slightly messy part that looks all your own”
Heat Things Up
Think “heat styling” and it’s your blow-dryer or curling iron that comes to mind. But your hand-held steamer? That was the secret to transforming LYNSEY’s lush out-of-the-box layers (left) into the bouncy bob at right. We simply wrapped the hair in large perm rods, then applied steam evenly to the entire set. (And unlike blow-drying, which simply locks in the style, wet steam can be used to restyle your wig.)
Able to withstand temperatures up to 285°F (140°C), LYNSEY’s EnvyHair™ blend of 30% Human Hair & 70% heat-friendly Synthetic can be curled, straightened, blow-dried or hot-rollered. Think of the possibilities when you think of it like your own natural hair.
