Traveling with Your Wig

Christmas is quickly approaching, and for many, that means traveling for the holidays. Do your wigs need to come with you? We have a few pointers to get you to any holiday location…with your hair perfectly intact! Follow these handy tips for travel-ready styling, on-the-go:

1. Pack Your Wig Right

How you pack your wig might just be the most important part of the travel process. During transit, your wig can get compressed, which results in loss of shape and damage to the strands. However, this is an easy fix. Packing your wigs inside out can reduce friction and frizz, and investing in a travel bag can help add an extra layer of protection. There are many affordable travel bags specifically designed for wigs and hair pieces, which minimize frizz and tangles to keep your wig safe and beautiful. But if you’re in a pinch, a ziploc bag will also work—just make sure it’s filled with air and pack it inside out!

2. Pack an Extra Wig

Not only will this give you the versatility of changing your look at a moment’s notice, it also gives you an added layer of insurance. No one wants to assume the worst will happen, but things do seem to get lost or damaged so much easier when you’re on the move. Better to be safe than sorry! It’s also a good idea to plan which wigs you’re bringing according to the weather and activities you’ll experience on your trip—different cap styles offer different levels of comfort for the various situations you may find yourself in. By planning ahead and bringing multiple hairstyle options, you’ll be sure to dazzle your family and friends with perfectly styled hair, every day.

3. Keep it Fresh and Fabulous

With all that traveling, it can be easy for your wig to lose its lustre. The last thing anyone wants is a wig that looks like it’s been riding in a suitcase for the last several hours. Luckily, this is an easy fix. At Envy, we offer a convenient four-piece, travel-size styling set. With shampoo, leave-in conditioner, lusterizer, and hair spray, this set gives you everything you could possibly need to freshen up your wig on the go. If you want to take it an extra step, throw in our Renu and Repair spray to keep your ‘do looking its glossiest. And don’t forget to pack a wig comb or brush, to work through the inevitable tangles!

4. Keep it Shapely

A wig stand may be one of the most important pieces to include in your wig travel kit. Once you’ve arrived at your destination and combed and fluffed your wig back into shape, placing it on a stand until it’s ready to wear will keep it from becoming flattened, tangled, or damaged. And many stands are fully collapsible, so you don’t have to worry about them taking up too much room in your suitcase.

5. Accessorize!

The holidays are all about getting into the festive spirit, so be sure to pack your jolliest barrettes, clips, and scarves! And don’t forget the bobby pins. These can be your best friends when it comes to changing your style on a whim…or just ensuring the whole shebang stays in place. It may not hurt to bring an extra wig cap or two, either.

From all of us here a Envy, we hope you enjoy the happiest of holidays and a very merry New Year…wherever you may be!

The secret to a perfectly natural look is a slightly imperfect part, says Designer and CEO, Alan Eaton. “Gently reposition strands along the part line or snip a few wispy pieces using manicure scissors—AND some restraint—for a slightly messy part that looks all your own.”

For first-time wig wearers, “The trick is to stay close to the color of your eyebrows,” notes Designer and CEO, Alan Eaton. If not, “then consider dyeing your eyebrows to match your chosen wig color.”

“Few people know that wigs can be styled just like natural hair—and that most hairstylists are happy to give your wig a custom cut,” says Designer and CEO, Alan Eaton. “Trimming bangs and shaping to your exact specifications can help make your wig indecipherable from your own natural hair.”

“The “Grey Hair, Don’t Care” trend—which saw women embracing their grey—is stronger than ever. And not just with the over-50 crowd. “Silver is chic, edgy and looks great on almost anyone,” says Designer and CEO, Alan Eaton, who offers nearly every EnvyHair™ and synthetic style in 3 multi-dimensional grey shades.”
